Along with the development of hardware technology, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been used in a wide-range of applications. However, WSN is facing the great challenge of security because of dynamic topology, open network environment and especially limited energy. Malicious nodes can easily monitor, intercept or tamper data packets flowing in WSN and launch DoS attack. Communications can not be established because of the attack to routing information, which would affect the network performance seriously and even collapse the entire network. How to create secure routing for WSN has become the most important issue in the study of security in WSN.In this paper, a multipath secure routing protocol based on malicious node detection for wireless sensor networks (MDMP) is proposed for flat network by studying the secure routing problems in flat network and analyzing the existed secure routing protocol. The new protocol can detect and isolate the malicious nodes through using negotiatory mechanism during route discovery stage. At the same time, to save energy of nodes, blacklist and cache are introduced to resist the malicious nodes and avoid processing the duplicate data. MDMP hided routing information and used multipath to enhance the security. Moreover, it can reduce the delay by using double queue model. Finally, MDMP can ensure communication security by introducing presetting key technology. The conception of WSN is introduced in this paper as well as secure requirement and attack model. And then existed routing protocols are analyzed and some applications of cryptology are presented. Finally, the basic idea and implement of MDMP are shown, and then its feasibility is analyzed. The protocol is simulated on OMNeT++, analyzed performances based on the collected data, and studied the connectivity, security and energy consumption. The experiment result demonstrates that a high security level can be achieved through giving up a little extra energy consumption.
