Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) is a necessary step to reduce the effect of camera motion when image sequences are acquired from a mobile platform. EIS technology use digital image processing methods to remove unwanted motion let the video looks stabilized and smoothed. Compared with other stabilization methods, it has a lot of advantages, such as high image stabilizing precision, compacting size, light weight, low power consumption and reasonable price. And just because the EIS technology is widely applied, it has also become a new trend of the video stabilization. This paper presents briefly the electronic image stabilization in respects of its the basic principles, methods and process. At the same time, it in particular studies on the key technique of its realization. Generally, the stabilization of the video image sequence is processed through two phases:motion estimation and motion compensation. At the stage of motion estimation, we get the accurate detection of the inter-frame motion vectors to mainly use the image processing and information extracting. And then the original video image sequence stabilized by the motion compensation. Based on this method, three image stabilization algorithms are brought forward to deal with different motion types of camera systems in the paper. After getting the real video image sequence by the camera, we use the program of electronic image stabilization to process the image sequence, and it is greatly realize how to process the three image stabilization algorithm in the experiment. Finally we evaluate the accuracy of the algorithm, according to the quality factor. The simulation results show that the operator that we discuss in the paper can improve the stability of video image sequence without flutter.
