With the development of urban environment and the development of the society and economy, people have more and more time on recreation and the recreational activities have been increased dramatically. Urban recreation is more and more becoming an important function of urban life. From the academic field, more and more scholars are paying attention to the research on urban urban recreation and urban recreational space.This article is trying to suggest some ways on how to construct the urban recreational space, borrowing a lot from other researchers who have done research on this topic.There are four parts in this article.The research and analysis on the urban recreation space is the main line, interspersed with related questions of urban tour.The first chapter discussed the definations of recreation, recreational activities, recreational space and its forms in order to have a thorough and systemetic idea and understanding about the basic theories on urban recreational space.The second chapter discussed a special type of recreation —passive recreation and tentatively suggested the difinations of passive recreation and passive recreational space. It also made a preliminary idea on how to design passive recreational space.The third chapters discussed one important type of urban recreationalspace-----city square . It discussed the origin, classification and design of citysquare. It also suggested how to make a city square become a theme square before construction. The case study is the design of the Sun Square of Yanzhou city in Shandong province.The fourth chapter discussed how to construct urban recreational space in a holistic way. It include the elements, ideas and policies of urban recreational space. At last, it discussed several specific constructions of recreational environment.
