After the implement of Open-up policy in China, the tourism industry has made a rapid progress especially in the 1990s. More and more scholars hold that the image of tourist destination is one of the most crucial elements in attracting the tourists. At the same time, as the significant part enhancing competitive force in the tourist destination, the image of the destination plays a important role in tourists' decisions of their destinations as well as their activities. To some extent, the competition between the tourist destinations is actually the competition between their respective images. Therefore, the selection of these images has always been the focus of the studies in the field of tourism.In the light of the geography, communication theory, psychology this thesis explores the definition, components as well as features of the image of tourist destination on the basis of previous studies. It brings forward a new definition of the image of tourist destination by improving the mode of the image by Fakerye. Through an estimation of attractions of the tourism resources, the thesis indicates a method to measure the images of tourist destination by providing an objective basis for positioning and planning of these images.Moreover, this paper explicates the theories of the images ofdestination positioning by using the measure methods. With studying on the competitor substitutes, the strategies of positioning and logo planning of the images in the tourist destinations are puts forward in this thesis. It also explores the notion, the vision and the influence of the images on the basis of the CIS theories. This thesis aims at providing a guide for the planning of the image of tourist destinations so as to promote a comprehensive and systematic construction of the images in the tourist destinations. Finally, this thesis takes the Fairy Mountain in Wulong country as a case of study. On the basis of analysis and estimation of the tourism resources as well as the measures of the images in this interesting scene, the images of Fairy Mountain and the theories are conducted for the further construction of this tourist destination. And at the same time, this thesis points out that the pragmatic studies will promote the theories on the images planning.
