A Probe Into The Influence Of The Overseas Indians On Indian Economic Development

The population of Overseas Indians is quite big and scattered all over the world. Overseas Indians are economically strong and enjoying an increasing international influence. The recent achievements of Indian economy are largely due to the introduction of foreign investment and technology, especially the investment and technology brought back by overseas Indians. To get more help from overseas Indians for economic development, the Indian government has adopted positive policies to foster the introduction of foreign investment and technology by overseas Indians. Some of the policies adopted by the Indian government are very enlightening and China can draw some lessons from them, which is the main reason that this dissertation probes into the interaction of overseas Indians, Indian policies and Indian economy. First, this dissertation scrutinizes the present status of overseas Indians and their international influence. Also, it makes assessment of the situation, problems and potentials of the economic development of India, and analyses the strategy that India has adopted to develop economy. Then, it discusses the important influence that overseas Indians have on both the present development and the future development of Indian economy. Finally, it lays out the favorable and unfavorable conditions that affect India's efforts to get help from overseas Indians. What China can learn from India in this respect is also discussed in the final part of this dissertation.
