A Research Of Life Cycle Assessment For Environmental Impact Of Room Service In Hotel

With the development of cleaner production, eco-industry and circular economy in China, acceleration of sustainable development has became more and more important. The enterprises and government urgently need some feasible supporting techniques and life-cycle assessment is one of the important tools. Life cycle assessment is a "cradle to grave" approach for industrial systems. It quantitatively analyzes and qualitatively valuates the environmental impact of a product, process or activity throughout its entire life cycle. It am distinguish and quantify this impact through utilization of substances and environmental wastes. The purpose is to value environmental impact of these factors and search for a chance to improve. In this paper, the content and characters of life cycle assessment are systematically expatiated. It is first applied to the field of room service of hotel through making a method and studying a case of the room service of Technology Park Hotel in Dalian University of Technology.In this paper, a set of model which is suitable for life cycle assessment of room service in hotel includes 4 parts: goals and scoping, inventory analysis, life cycle impact assessment and interpretation. By the inventory analysis of room service of the hotel, the following impact categories are ascertained: acidification, global warming potential, eutrophication, stratospheric ozone depletion, resources depletion and solid waste. Based on these impact categories, the classification, characterization and weighting are made to standardize the inventory datum. The standard datum shows that the resource depletion is the most important part of 6 environmental impact categories and the stage of room using contributes the most environmental burden. So some cleaner production scenarios are brought forward and assessed. Suppose that the scenarios are carried out, the total environmental impact complex index is reduced from 2.37485 PE to 2.20460PE.The application of life cycle assessment for room service in hotel shows: the environmental impact of a service from its beginning to its end can be quantified, the application has the theory basis and is feasible in practice. Through the life cycle assessment for room service in hotel, the stage and the impact categories which impact the environment most can be found out, the cleaner production scenarios are brought forward to improve the enterprises' environment performance.
