The article firstly analyzes and explains the definition, quality and characteristics of performance, reckoning performance is a multiplayer definition which means those evaluated behaviors, processes and results. It is mix-reasoning, multidimensional and dynamic. Different analyses and explanations to performance reflect different viewpoints and angles of view, which affects the purpose, manners, ways and means of performance evaluation of one company.Performance evaluation involves employee evaluation, group evaluation and organization evaluation etc. Performance evaluation is a process including information collection, conformity, judgment and feedback. It has four parts: to build evaluation purpose, to choose evaluation objects; to build reference evaluation system, to build evaluation subject, guideline, standard and method; to collect corresponding information; to form value judgment. It also points out that performance evaluation not only does general value judgment but also chooses and forecasts as a guide. Performance evaluation, as a key part of performance management, its core purpose is to make the strategic goal come true by its choice, estimation and guide. To different evaluation purpose, the content of evaluation differs generally. So are evaluation subject, guideline, standard and methods.Performance evaluation is a system which consists of organization evaluation, group evaluation and employee evaluation of different classes. It is a set of rules and methods of performance evaluation. The development strategy and management guideline of one company are the core factor of performance evaluation system and value preference, which is due to the strategic target of performance evaluation system. When the development strategy of one company is ensure, the company performance evaluation guideline, department performance evaluation guideline and position performance evaluation guideline form a pyramid guideline system which is the core content of the whole organization performance evaluation. Designing the performance evaluation system, the performance evaluation guideline should attentively keep the target consistent, acceptable and controllable; keep the information timely, object and exact; reflect the characteristics of the organization and adaptability of the evaluation system.And you smoothly handle the relation between controllable guidelines and uncontrollable guidelines, quantitative guidelines and non-quantitative guidelines, financial guidelines and non-financial guidelines, single guidelines and multiple guidelines.On discussing performance, performance evaluation and performance evaluation system, on expatiating upon and analyzing the theory basis, history limitation and shortcomings, it simply introduces the financial analytic system of DUPONT and characteristics of EVA economic growth.The article gives a systematic description of the development of performance evaluation system for companies in the end, gives expectation of the tendency of performance evaluation system. It thinks the subject and purpose of the performance evaluation system is multiple, financial and strategic, external and internal performance evaluation is used synthetically, which causes the further development of performance evaluation. It simply introduces the characteristics, processes, design of guideline and several points in application of balance scorecard. It also gives a simple description of the performance evaluation in our country.
