The rapid development of the Internet and its characteristics of openness, convenience and low threshold attracted more and more Internet users, but also offers great opportunities. Internet-based electronic commerce with its own highly efficient, low-cost advantages, gradually emerging as a new management and consumption patterns at the network era. the involved areas are from banking, foreign trade, the stock market to the the daily shopping of everybody. With the prevalence of e-commerce, the need for payment based on internet has increased.According to the amount of payment, payment systems can be devided into two types: macropayment system and micropayment system. Macropayment system deals with large transaction amount, needs strong security mechanisms and high transaction processing costs. On the Internet, there are many micro-transactions of information commodities, the amount of transaction is about a few dollars or a bit(even smaller). Traditional payment systems can not handle such large transactions. In such cases, micropayment system came into being.The background and characteristics of micro-payments are analyzed simply in this article. On this basis, the status evaluation framework of micro-payment are summarized comprehensively and deeply. According to the payment patterns, micro-payment have the following three types : micropayment based on strip, micropayment based on hash chain, micropayment based on email. Three categories of micro-payment system are described in this article representatively : MlliCent, PayPal, PayWord and conduct a detailed analysis.A new micropayment scheme is introduced in this article and it is built on the basis of PayWord. As PayWord use a different hash chain for different vendor, it requires higher computing power and storage capacity for consumer side. To solve this problem, we use a receipt included vendor signature, when consumer do some shopping in other vendor, he can use the same hash chain when he pay for the first vendor, the other vendor verify the hash value and other vendor's signature, confirm the payment. At the same time , this scheme provide the atomicity and non-repudiation.
