A Study On Monetary Cooperation In China-ASEAN

Economic globalization has not merely brought the rare opportunity for development to countries all over the world, brought the enormous risk to economy of various countries at the same time. In the face of increasing global economic financial risks, each government has realized that it is impossible to keep its economic security and stability by one's own strength only. The financial crisis of East Asia in 1997, has exposed the great defect in economic system and exchange rate system of every economy of east Asia. So, after the financial crisis of east Asia, in order to take precautions against the breaking out again of the currency and financial crisis, some economies of east Asia have reached a common understanding, which namely it is due to the coordination within the area to realize the steady development of the economic and financial system that the lasting economic growth needs.In recent years, through the extensive discussion and coordination of all circles of East Asia, certain achievements on monetary cooperation in East Asia have been obtained. But lacking of the foundation of trade integration and motive force of political cooperation, the progress on currency cooperative of East Asia shows slowly slightly. When the monetary cooperation of East Asia made little progress, China signed the trade agreement of freedom with Association of South-east Asian Nations formally in October of 2002, have started China- the construction of ASEAN Free Trade Area. The startup of China-ASEAN Free Trade Area has not only offered a mode of consulting for regional economic cooperation in east Asia, but also have opened up the new thinking for the problems of currency cooperation in East Asia.From the angle of China-ASEAN Free Trade Area, this thesis discusses the problems on monetary cooperation between China and the member countries Association of South-east Asian Nations. And it is divided into four chapters as following:Chapter one is the introduction of this thesis, which expounds the research meaning of this thesis at first, and on the basis of reviewing the relevant research of monetary cooperation of east Asia, expand the idea that the thinking puts forward China-ASEAN monetary cooperation;Chapter two comments the theoretical foundation to monetary cooperation -The theory of optimum currency area, do theory foreshadowing for the research that wecarry on monetary cooperation in China-ASEAN;Chapter three bases on the political economic background of monetary cooperation between China and ASEAN member countries mainly, and analyses the cost and income of monetary cooperation in China-ASEAN by comparing with monetary cooperation in East Asia;Chapter four put forward, on the basis of reviewing the existing schemes of monetary cooperation in East Asia, the concrete suggestion for China-ASEAN monetary cooperation with consideration of the actual conditions.
