Review And Discussion Of Industrial Location Theory Under New Productivity

Generally speaking, location is the spatial position or place that things take up. Location is changing and developing with the spread of scopes or areas of human's behaviors. The location in Industrial Location Theory is the spatial position or place taken up by human's industrial production activities. Industrial Location Theory is to study the regularity of industrial enterprises choosing positions or places to arrange their manufacture, which was born at the beginning of industrialization symbolized by the first industrial revolution, and have becoming more and more deeply and colorful with the development of industrialization and economically modernization, the improvement of human's science &technology, and people's deeper understanding of the world.In accordance with the economic and social characteristics of different historical periods and related theories about the development of society, the thesis partitions Industrial Location Theory into three periods: Classic Industrial Location Theory (from the beginning of 20th century to the forties and fifties of 20th century); Modern Industrial Location Theory (from the forties and fifties to the seventies and eighties of 20th century); After-modern Industrial Location Theory (from the eighties of 20th century to nowadays).With describing the economic and social backgrounds, the main body of this thesis reviews the chief thoughts, theories and disadvantages of Classic Industrial Location Theory and Modem Industrial Location Theory. Today, the society is changing tremendously day to day: economically globalization; cross-country companies are playing important role in the world stage; kinds of garden economy are booming and prospering; the network of transportation and communication spreads almost anywhere; science & technology, information, knowledge and talents become into the necessary factors of new productivity. Under this condition, the thesis discusses some new problems of industrial location, such as the location choosing of new-arising industries (ex: IT industry), phenomenon of Science-based Industrial Park, location strategy of cross-country companies, etc; and analyzes some essential factors which post-modern industries will consider, such as science & technology, information, intellectual, innovation, risk capital, etc; high-science & technology industries cluster areas and specialty production areas which mainly consist of middleor small-scale enterprises are becoming new valued industrial locations; Furthermore, with the development of information society and globalization, large-scale enterprises apt to arrange their branches or departments in different places with different location conditions and explore superiority in worldwide.
