Research On The Development Strategy Of Wuhan Urban Industry

Through theoretical analysis and experience analysis, this paper has demonstrated the necessity of existence of urban industry and disclosed its main characteristics. And then apply it to Wuhan's case to answer the question whether Wuhan needs to develop the urban industry and how to develop it. The urban industry is an industry form that exists in a city which has developed into the metropolis stage. They depend on the gathering effect of the metropolis and are adapt to the existence condition of the city. The urban industry can be divided into four categories: the management headquarters, the research departments and the sales departments of the business enterprises; the traditional labor-intensive manufacturing processes; the technique-intensive or information-intensive manufacturing processes and the intelligence-intensive manufacturing processes which always involving in the design of a product. Generally speaking, the urban industry is a kind of industry which is small land-using, high value-added and free from pollution. The urban industry enterprises are mostly small ones and often exist in a gathering way. Through the analysis of the whole industry conditions and the current urban industry conditions of Wuhan, this paper has drawn the following conclusions: First, Wuhan will soon enter the second stage of industrialization. With the personal level of GDP continuing to go up, some specific urban consumption will be created. In this stage, we should develop the urban industry to promote the restructuring of the whole industry system and to form a productivity system with the co-existence of the high and new technology industry, pillar industry and urban industry. Second, The advantage professions of the urban industry of Wuhan are clothing, food-making ,small electrical information products, packing and printing. Due to the rich knowledge resources and the teconology advantage of East Lake High and New Technique Development Area, there is high development potential of the small electrical information products.In that case, Wuhan should concentrate on these four professions to develop urban industry. In the end, the development of the urban industry can rely on the urban industry parks and the urban industry buildings to carry on which is also come together with the reform of old industry base.
