On The Social Constructivist's View Of Science

At the end of 1970s, the Social Constructivism has realized the Science Studies turning from ration into practice which be regarded as the theory and method of Scientific Knowledge. Social Construct, it opens a door of a series of new problems which have been neglected with its unique view of science.Greatly influenced by Karl Mannheim's theory of sociology of knowledge and post-Wittgenstein philosophy—including the theory of language games, some important points of social constructivism have some resemblance to their theories. Although there is some difference between them, the theory of social constructivism is the advancement and development of them two. And then, social constructivism has a close relation to Kuhn's paradigm theory, which is called the radical understanding and explanation to his theory.In the course of constructing their theory, which using standpoint as its method to study science knowledge, they have fully relied on the social factors and relativism. They have adopted the empiricism while defending their own sociological theory. Social constructivism shows that social factor is not only in science but also the key factor. In the meanwhile it eliminates the foundation of objectivity.Put the social constructivism in the Philosophy of Science, the macroscopic background, analyzes the similarities and differences from logical positivism, historicism and postmodernism. The traditional science knowledge having been deconstructed by them using social factors and relativism as theirs theory foundation deeply. It gives a new view to study the science knowledge from no-centralization, relativity and condition. This sociological turn is closely related with the historicism. Both of them are reveal the secular characteristics and deconstruct "standard scientific view". The deconstructions to reality, scientific method and experiment ideology of science, postmodernism are embodiment of social constructivist's relativism. But social constructivism still is not one part of postmodernism.As a coin has two sides, social constructivism has its good point and drawback. Someone though that it was relativism in methodology, but it could be thought that social constructivism formed points in common. Someone thought that it was anti-realism, but it could be thought owned its own realism. Someone thought that it tended to subjectivism, but it could be thought that social constructivism key problems were hermeneutical and irrational choice.Then, all we do are trying to give a rough sketch of social constructivism and has been understood more about its view of science.
