Barriers To Entry In Network Industries

As a core issue in the studies of industrial organization, the barrier to entry calls for a particularly in-depth investigation in China where the industrial development and the reform of enterprises are living a crucial moment. This has been a particularly active of research on entry barriers in recent years. Barriers to entry are considered an important structure characteristic of an industry. We frequently observe that firms do not entry an industry despite the fact that existing firms in the industry make above normal profits because of the industry existing entry barriers.Network industries are the research object of the theory of industrial organization all the time, but in the past, the research mainly focuses on the regulatory behavior of government, pays less attention to the problems of economics of scale and competition of these industries.Because of the great progresses of technology and the great changes of system and market environment, the structures of network industries organization have changed greatly too. Naturally, all kinds of problems about network industries are paid more and more attentions to and studied. However, the theory framework of network industry organization has not been established completely, the competition of network industry still lacks steady ground of theory.Based on the above reality, the paper makes series of studies on the barriers to entry in network industries.In this dissertation, I started with a general analysis of the barriers of entry in network industry, based on the western theories on industrial organization.
