With the deteriorating ecological environment, land desertification has attracted more and more attention. Odors region’s physiognomy types of vast and the sediment types is complex, land desertification type is complete, the development area is larger, which is one of the most serious desertification region in our country desertification. Study the desertification in distribution and variation by using remote sensing and GIS technology, discusses the relationship between the desertification and the geological and geomorphic, which has certain directive significance in preventing desertification.Based on the original geological and geomorphic features, quaternary geology, three phases desertification interpreting data, I process topology sorting and modification, and combined with other auxiliary material, use RS and GIS tools comprehensively, analyzed and summarized desertification status in 2007 and the three change characteristics in1975、in2000、in2007 from desertification area and distribution situation. According to these I summarized the relations between the desertification and geological and geomorphic, and predicting the possibility of unknown area where happened through this relationship, and proposing the prevention measures.This paper gets achievement as follows:1)The desertification area in study area in 2007 up to 250513.99 km2, the sandy desertification is 51.28% of the total area of desertification, water erosion is 44.88%, salinization is 3.84%. In addition, through the analysis of the desertification distribution and variation in the research area in 1975, 2000 and 2007, I found the sandy desertification area research area is reduced, water erosion is from the first increases to reduce, and salinization has increased trends.2) Through the statistics of desertification under different genetic physiognomy, constructing relation matrix, study the relationship between the desertification and the geological and geomorphic, I get: sandy desertification develop easily on Upper Pleistocene and Holocene alluvial plain of the wind; erosion desertification develop easily on Pleistocene strata on the fold down; saline developed easily on Holocene erosion of the fold down on the plateau plain.3)According to the relationship which between desertification and the geological features, I establish a prediction model of desertification, and through the geological features of the data we can be predict the likelihood of desertification better in unknown areas which can play a guiding role in the further research work.4) According to the geological and topographical features of the regional desertification, I summarize the countermeasures to prevent and control desertification.
