Tailings, as a special kind of industrial buildings, are listed as one of the three control engineering of mine. Its stability and operation have direct and closely relationship with mining enterprises’production safety, what’s more, which involves tailings’surrounding people’s lives and property security. The study on strengthening the slope stability of tailings has important realistic significance to mining enterprises’production safety and environment protection. This paper in the angle of plant fixed slope made physical and chemical analysis of soil placed on Jin Shandian iron ore tailing slope, then made a concrete analysis the relationship of the ground biomass, underground root system and root system and the shear resistance ability of plants through the pot culture experiment and soil shear test, which is excepted to find out and search the soil features placed fit to Jin Shandian iron ore tailing slope and the proper plant species to improve the slope stability in the meanwhile. The main conclusions are as follows:(1) Through analysis of physical and chemical properties of soil, organic matter, alkali-hydrolysable nitrogen and available P are lack except available K. It shows that the soil placed on Jin Shandian iron ore tailing slope is very barren, which is not suitable for the growth of plants. In addition, whether surface or on a deeper layer, the soil pH is over 7. Combining with nutrient analysis, I make a conclusion that the soil is red lime soil.(2) Through the pot culture experiment and analysis of the ground biomass, I find that there is a significant difference of plants growth status between with fertilization r and no fertilization, the overall situation is that the plants grow better with fertilization than that of no fertilization. Dichondra repens and Cynodon dactylon among the six selected plants are not suitable for the growth, while Medicago sativa, Festuca elata and Cynodon dactylon are more suitable, Lolium perennc is the worst. There is an obvious contrast in fertilization condition and not, and it should be added fertilizer on the soil if you want to grow.(3) Based on root development situation, root developments of Festuca elata and Medicago sativa with fertilization or not are better, Lolium perennc with fertilization is good, Trifolium repens is next. Rhododendron simsil’s root of shrub without growth isn’t suitable in such soil, the root development of Buxus sinica is evident, and its development situation with fertilization is better.(4) Through the soil shear test, I find that the soil shear resistance with plant root system is better than the bare soil, which shows that the root system of plant has certain strengthen and fix function. The shear resistance of Trifolium repens and Medicago sativa among the legume plants rank respectively first and second, and we can make a preferential choice in plants selection. The shear resistance of Cynodon dactylon is less than the bare soil, which may has something with the soil moisture content, soil adaptability and lack growth time according to the preliminary inference.(5) According to the selection principles and related experimental analysis, of the six chosen herbs and the two bushes, we should make a preferential choice for Medicago sativa, Festuca elata and Trifolium repens, while with the condition of fertilization we should choose Lolium perennc and Buxus sinica.
