Liquid atomization technology has a wide range of applications in variousindustrial fields. The working fluid involved in modern applications has beendeveloping from the simple liquid to the complex high-viscosity liquid. Thetraditional spray nozzle technology can’t get the desired effect when facing thecomplex high-viscosity liquid. Results of many studies have shown that effervescentatomization is a new method performing well in atomizing the complex liquid. Thisarticle studies about the processing of effervescent atomizer with the software Fluent. When researching the internal flow field, the VOF model in Fluent is taken tosimulate the two phase flow and track the interface between bubbles and liquid.Transformation of flow pattern inside the mixing chamber has been studied when theGLR is changed from0.02to0.20. The result shows that the discrete bubbles insidethe two-phase flow is getting merge to be bigger ones and finally to be an annularflow pattern with the GLR’s gradually increase.Atomization process outside the atomizer has always been divided into two subprocesses called primary atomization and secondary atomization. Firstly, acomputational model is built upon the result of the study about internal flow patternand some pre-existing empirical formula. After compared with some experiment data, the model is used to simulate the primary atomization with different workingconditions and different physical properties of liquid. To make up for the deficiencyof the traditional research methods, the results of this step are taken as the initialparameters of the simulation about the secondary atomization.DPM model from the Fluent is used to study the change rules of the movementabout liquid drops in the outside flow field. Different parameters are considered tofind the influencing process on the features of jet flow field, including GLR, airsupply pressure, outlet diameter of the atomizer, physical properties of liquid. Results from this part contains the distributing characteristics about the SMD of drops both in axial direction and radial direction, which have offered some detaildata for the study of applying effervescent atomizer to the atomization ofhigh-viscosity liquid, and offered numerical support to the correspondingexperimental study.
