The seismic damage investigation is an important means to collect seismicdata; it is the basis for the seismic damage assessment and provides valuabledata for studies on seismic damage. At present, the seismic damageinvestigation relies mainly on the investigation records which are wroten byprofessional investigators in disaster areas, since voluminous paper-basedmaterials which are recorded by investigators on site are unable to analyzed andutilized timely, the organization and analysis of data are normally processedafter they returned from the investigation. There are two aspects of deficienciesby using this seismic damage investigation method. First, because of theshortage of time to process seismic damage investigation on site, the largenumber of text inputs and complex forms will increase the workload and reducethe efficiency of the investigators, the investigation data are often acquiredroughly with the tight timetable. Secondly, the subjective difference is hard toavoid if there is no easily achievable and standard procedure to regulate theinvestigators to record investigation materials, it will cause a large diversity ofthe investigation data and a worse comparability between the data from differentinvestigators. In addition, the untimely transmission of the seismic damageinvestigation data will lead to a lag to utilize the investigation data. Therefore, how to provide a fast and effective method for the seismic damage investigationand to transfer investigation data timely after earthquake occurs become animportant issue and needs to be solved urgently. Based on the standardizationand the hierarchical analysis of the seismic damage data and the design of acorresponding investigation form, this article provides a rurual seismic damageinvestigation system based on wireless network, which includes the followingtwo parts:1. A mobile terminal application based on the Android platform. The programprovides a convenient and efficient data input interface for the seismic damageinvestigation data. The seismic damage investigation form will be combineddynamically and intelligently according to the investigator’s needs in differentinvestigation tasks, the workload of investigators will be effectively reduced andthe efficiency of the seismic damage investigation will be improved. Theseismic damage investigation data are able to transfer in real time by using thewireless networks and therefore to avoid the dalay in the process of seismicdamage investigation data acquisition.2. An server application based on WebService. The network service functionare provided by establishment of WebService through the VS.NET developmentplatform, this service function provides specific functional interface, which areable to receive and parse the seismic damage data through wireless network andshore the data in the database server. The seismic damage investigation data, which are transferred from the investigation sites in real time, can be queried byusers through the inquiry function of the service. The seismic damage investigation system presented in this article is an easilylearned, easily applied, efficient and professional rural seismic damageinvestigation system based wireless network. In order to remedy the deficiencyof the present seismic damage investigation system, this system achieveshigh-efficiency of the seismic damage investigation and timeliness of the datatransmission by using of a mature developed platform and a cross-platform datatransmission protocol. In the meantime, performance tests shows that thissystem possess high operating efficiency, smooth operated functions, lessnetwork traffic consumption and high wireless transmission efficiency, it hasextensive application prospects in practical applications.
