The function of hydrogeologic monitoring system is to gather data of underground waterin natural environment, and to provide reliable data for hydrogeology research on themovement and change of underground water. A high performance hydrogeologic monitoringsystem is important for scientific research of geology and for the rational use of undergroundwater. However, there are many shortcomings in existing hydrogeologic monitoring systems. For example, the systems are costly and not easy to operate, they are not good atreal-time performance, they are prone to lost data, and there stability relies heavily on powersupply. With the rapid development of the Internet of things and wireless sensor networks, itbecomes possible to guarantee the real-time property of data gathering process and to reducethe cost of data interaction. In this thesis, a hydrogeologic monitoring system based onwireless sensor networks is designed. Compared with existing systems, the system presentedin this thesis is easy to operate and is good at real-time performance, low cost and low powerconsumption. The contributions of this thesis are listed as follows:First, taking the STM32F103RC Microprocessor as main chip, the hardware part ofhydrogeologic monitoring system is designed based on wireless sensor networks. Thehardware consists of a control processor module, a sensor module for soil temperature, humidity and liquid level, a CC1100communication module, a GPRS communication module,a GPS module, a SD storage module, and a power module.Secondly, the software design of hydrogeologic monitoring system is presented. Thesoftware is composed of a sensor acquisition program, a GPS receiving program, a GPRSremote communication program, an ad hoc network program, and a FATFS file storageprogram. Finally, the hardware part and the software part are combined and tested together.Performance of main function modules in the combined system is tested, and the adaptabilityperformance of the system in field environment is also tested. According to the test of the accuracy of data acquisition modules, the test of thereliability of ad-hoc network module and GPRS remote transmission module, and the test ofthe stability of the system in field environment, it is demonstrated that the hydrogeologicmonitoring system developed in this thesis can meet the requirement on high accuracy andhigh reliability.
