With the development of science and technology and human need, human activities have gradually extended to the underground from the ground. Because of the complexity of underground space, geometry, the uncertainty of topology, and the limited of geological applications and data sampling, the traditional 2D GIS is difficult to describe the complex geological objects. The combination of the spatial information management, data processing, data interpretation, geological spatial analysis and prediction, the entity content analysis and graphical visualization with computer technology in 3D environment, is a hot topic of current research in the field of digital geological theory.3D geological modeling is a complicated system engineering, from the acquisition and processing of geological data, and then to build a three-dimensional geological model, is not only need the geological professional knowledge, but also need to know how to use the computer to carry out geological data processing and the interpretation of geological structure and phenomena, as well as the 3D display of geological structure and phenomenon.Based on the study of research results at home and abroad, this paper has done research on the software design of the 3D geological modeling platform, the organization of 3D models, the geological modeling algorithm and so on. Base of all it puts forward a plug-in type of 3D geological modeling platform construction train of thought, and then designed and implemented a plug-in geological work platform based on OGRE. Using plug-in structure, the Platform effectively reduces the coupling of the system, improves the scalability and maintainability of the system. As a 3D geological platform, the system also implements the drilling model, grid data modeling, mine modeling, geological modeling and so on, it greatly reduces the geological personnel on the threshold of the development of three-dimensional geological modeling. In this paper, the main work includes the following aspects:(1) Base on the in-depth study and learning of 3D geological modeling at home and abroad, the paper has analyzed the problems existing in the current 3D geological modeling platform, and puts forward a plug-in three-dimensional geological modeling platform construction train of thought with a kind of micro tree structure kernel+ plug-in warehouse.(2) Grid data is often used in geological work, based on the research of grid data generation method, this paper has researched the 3D display and editing of high resolution grid data. Then, the paper proposed a 3D display and editing method with a layered and partitioned strategy.(3) Due to its own characteristics and complexity of geometric shape, and the different application purpose, mine modeling and organization has different methods. The paper has done research on the mine modeling from two kinds of methods with the entity and the block, and then it designed and implemented a modeling method based on section line and a method based on octree.
