An electron multiplier has a very wide range of applications, such as in mass spectrometry technology, vacuum technology, space exploration and in the cesium atomic frequency standard. It is a vacuum-tube structure. It can multiply incident charges. It includes the sample with secondary electron emission characteristics and electron gun that emits primary electron. The electron beam bombards the samples with secondary electron emission characteristics, such as MgO. If electron can escape from the surface, it is called secondary electron. The number of secondary electron has certain relationship with the number of primary electron and its energy. If we want to make a better electron multiplier, in this paper, we research secondary electron emission mechanism of MgO the electric potential distribution in electron gun, and electron trajectory simulation.Secondary electron emission coefficient of MgO is of importance in the electron multiplier, but there is little research on it in China. It has important significance to make research and experiment of secondary electron emission of MgO. In this paper, we make preliminary analysis and study on it.In order to study secondary electron emission characteristics of Mgo more, it is necessary to carry out the measurement of the secondary electron emission coefficient of MgO. Therefore, research on the launching device-electron gun is very important. With MATLAB software, we use finite difference method to calculate the distribution of the electric potential, and use the Runge Kutta method to simulate electron trajectory in electron gun. In this way, we provide intuitive and efficient solution to experiments. We measured the secondary electron emission coefficient of MgO, obtained satisfactory results, and analyzed the source of error.
