Lanslides are most common disasters, distribute widely, occurrence frequently and have large damage. Not only do they seriously threaten people’s lives properties and engineering safety, but also will cause serious losses once the slide instability. With the increasing scale of human engineering activities, the landslide stability problems encountered more and more prominent in the mining, transportation and water conservancy construction project. Therefore, analyzing landslide origin through field work, using scientific methods to evaluate landslide stability and taking approprate measures against the risk of landslide governance have vast importance to the prevention of landslide geological disasters and protecting people’s life and property security.In this paper, a slide in Dazhou city,Sichuan province, is considered as the research project. The characteristics of the landslide area are identified, such as the natural and geographical conditions, hydrogeology geological conditions, engineering geological conditions and so on, based on the great mass of geological date and the theory of geological evaluation, soil mechanics, engineering geology and hydrological geology. Detailed study is made on the deformation characteristic, formation mechanism, and variation. Engineering geology analysis and limit equilibrium method are combined to evaluate the current steady-state of the landslide qualitatively and quantitatively. The slope stability is analyzed by the use of numerical analysis method. Then the occurrence and development of landslides are observed by setting up appropriate physical mode according to the results of the evaluation. The main contents and conclusions of the test are as follows.(1) According to the field survey results,the deformation of the landslide is mainly concentrated on the upper and rear part of C region and D region.The latter rains make the slope deformation develope gradually,and have not yet formed through sliding zone.(2) Reviews concluded that the landslide is in stable state basically in natural conditions, and is in understable state in the rainstorm conditions because the safety factor is less than 1.05 in the rainstorm conditions(3) Using strength reduction method and large-scale finite element analysis software-ABAQUS,establish geom-echanical model and analyze the characteristics and variation of plastic deformation, which got the result agreeing well with the engineering practice.(4) The test results show that the process of landslide development is a gradual process including five stages,such as formation stage,deformation stage,sliding stage, severe sliding state and stable stage.(5) The development of cracks has an important influence on the stability of slope when it rains.Water forms in the cracks because of the persistent rain, hydrostatic pressure of water produces,slope sliding force grows, surface resistance reduces,shear strength decreases,the stability coefficient decreases and then landslide occurres.(6) According to the analysis and calculation result,the paper uses the anti-slide pile and joint consolidation the surface filled combination of control measures on its improvement.
