The Stark effect of Rydeberg atoms in electric field has a potential application in the fields of dipole-dipole interaction, quantum information and quantum control. Due to its many unique properties, such as large electric dipole moment(EDM), longer life and high sensitivity to external field, the Rydberg atoms have become an ideal system to study the effect of external electric field. The current research about the Rydberg atoms have a lot, but most of that are on hydrogen atoms, alkali metal and alkaline earth metal atoms, for the study of other atoms are rarely reported.The main content of this thesis is:1. By means of the matrix diagonalization, we numerically calculated the Stark effect in the Rydberg states of single electron and many-electron atoms according the software of Mathematic. For the single electron atoms, we choose the lithium, cesium and gallium atoms to research, and for the many-electron atoms, the krypton atoms are selected. In the process of calculation, the mechanism of angular momentum in single electron and many-electron atoms are analysis detailed.2. We select atomic lithium as the research object to calculate its EDMS by the method of matrix diagonalization which is applicable for both weak and strong field. In order to check the validity of the EDMS, we use the results of the EDMS to calculate the Stark energies by numerical integration, to find that the results are agree with those calculated by matrix diagonalization.3. By comparing the change of quantum defect in different atoms, we analysis the influence of the atomic number, principle quantum number and angular quantum number on the quantum defect, and find that the feature of gallium atoms which are different from other atoms. The results provide the important reference for related research work, and are of great significance for insight into the atomic structure and the interaction between the atomic core and the highly excited electron.
