Nowadays, BEC (Brands’ Essence of Chicken) is widely used as a healthy supplement to meet people’s needs and has been focused by researchers around the world. However, previous studies mainly focused on the effects of BEC in resisting fatigue and immunity without refer to the function in regulating circadian rhythm. In order to investigate the effects of BEC on the mammalian circadian regulation and it’s effective component, we examined the expression of peripheral clock genes, concentration of glucocorticoids and behavior activity after the short- or long-term treatment with BEC and its component. Results obtained in the present study show that BEC can effectively regulate the mammalian peripheral clocks. After the experimental jet lag, BEC can significantly facilitate the phase shift of prepherial clock, which may be related to the glucocorticoids mechanism. Secondly, Car (L-carnosine) and EOP (ProBeptigen), both of which are known as the important nutrients in BEC, are proved to be able to accelerate the time course of phase shift after the reversal of light-dark cycle, which suggests that Car and EOP are effective components of BEC in regulating circadian rhythm. Thirdly, short-term feeding treatment with Car and EOP are also able to induce organ-or gene-specific changes in the expression of peripheral clock genes. We found that Car mainly plays a role in the liver and heart, while EOP shows more effect in regulating the pineal clock genes with a ideal dosage of 111.2mg/kg. In addition, we found that both Car and EOP can interfere the glucocorticoids induced alteration of clock gene expression, which further confirmed that Car and EOP are effective component of BEC in circadian regulation. In conclusion, BEC has a positive effect on the mammalian circadian regulation, which is associated with it’s component Car and EOP.
