Electrostatic discharge is one of the main reasons which lead to the faults of many kinds of electronic equipment. It has been investigated deeply by scientists all over the world and the research areas are concentrated on the electrostatic discharge source as well as the terminal protection. The electrostatic discharge interference coupling is also systematic discussed but the solver are focused on the methods of theory and experiment which both have some drawbacks: the methods of theory is definitely accurate but is not suitable to the engineering because of complex; the methods of experiment is more meaningful to the engineering, however high cost, lack of repeatability and damage on equipment are the limited factors. With the merging of high quality computers, the simulation of complex electromagnetic environment is becoming the reality. This article is based on the simulation thought and aims to analyze the electrostatic discharge interference routes of complex electronic system using the 3D electromagnetic field software. With this method, the full link interference routes analysis containing interfere source, equipment shell and the PCB ICs can be achieved.The electrostatic discharge fundamental theory, electrostatic discharge current expression, the lumped element model of ESD guns and the radiation field model are first stated in the article. These theory help to analyze the characters, the specific parameters and the international standard verification of electrostatic discharge, which are the basis theory in the simulation of three dimension model.Several high frequency numerical analysis methods and their basic characters are secondly stated. The popular 3D electromagnetic field software are introduced in algorithm, interface between humans and computer and the application areas, as a result, the CST MWS is finally selected as the simulation software in this article. Furthermore, the finite integration technique(FIT), CST specific technique and fundamental function are described in details which offer the theory basis in the construction of simulation module of the electrostatic discharge platform.The electrostatic discharge simulation platform of CST MWS is built based on the electrostatic discharge fundamental theory, CST simulation algorithm and the software function. The platform is based on the CST software and the simulation is implemented through the electrostatic discharge module, the EUT module and the simulated parameters setting module with the FIT solver. The final result is plotted and summarized by the data export and process module. In order to simulate the model better, a visual interface is built which not only increases the efficiency but also reduces the incorrect operation of parameter settings.With the constructed electrostatic discharge platform, a satellite-borne RTU equipment is tested by discharging. The distribution of surface current and the timedomain curve of magnet near the equipment shell are analyzed. As a result, the feasibility of the electrostatic discharge platform is verified and the full routine simulation analysis is guided by the RTU simulation process. In order to discuss the ESD current influence on the inner PCB of the equipment, a full and universal method is proposed to analyze and quantify the interference coupling route. It is successfully applied to a passive low pass filter equipment and the interference routes as well as the interference magnitude are analyzed which is helpful for the resistance to ESD matter.
