Gauss Kruger projection is referred to as the Gauss projection, is the equiangular transverse elliptic cylindrical projection. Because of its high projection precision, small deformation and easy calculation, Gauss project has been adopted and popularized in many countries. China’s current 1954 Beijing coordinate system, 1980 Xi’an coordinate system, China Geodetic Coordinate System 2000 and other independent coordinate system of each city are using the Gauss projection. Gauss projection has the deformation of length and area, and the deformation is inevitable. At present, the research on the length deformation of Gauss projection is becoming more and more mature, and the study of the area deformation of the Gauss projection needs to be further studied. Research on the factors affecting the deformation of Gauss projection area and the rule based on CGCS2000.Through the laws of deformation to take measures to control of the deformation of the area, and can provide reference for the work about the area’s deformation in future’s geographic information. This paper introduces the general theory and method of the earth’s shape, map projection and Gauss projection, by calculation based CGCS2000 reference ellipsoid, 1: 10000 scale Reference Ellipsoid Trapeze area and Gauss projection Trapeze area, and calculates the difference and the ratio two areas to research the area deformation. In this paper, we discuss the factors that affect the area deformation of Gauss projection(latitude, the distance from the central meridian, the elevation of the projection plane, the combination of the distance from the central meridian and the elevation of the projection plane) and the deformation law, At the same time, four methods are analyzed to reduce the area deformation of Gauss projection, Combined with National Geographic Census Zhenyuan County project and Guizhou Mengjing basin cascade development project application are four methods to calculate the amount of deformation, and the results were compared and analyzed.
