Friction materials in sports machinery and equipment plays transmission, braking, slowing down, parking functions, have been widely used in automobiles, machinery, etc. Nowadays with the requirement of automotive safety and environmental unceasing enhancement, the structure of the composition of the material have been constantly changing. Friction material has been made together by a variety of formula materials through physics, pressure molding, the main properties of friction materials are depended on the comprehensive performance of each component materials, so to develop friction material product must firstly understand the relationship between the raw materials basic properties and the overall performance. On the basis of the review and analysis literatures, the semimetal friction material formula has been researched, verified by theoretical and experimental. The influence of the binder, steel fiber, iron powder, plumbago to friction performance in formulation of semimetal friction material have been discussed, and the formula have been optimized, the theoretical and experimental basis have been provided for the research and application of semimetal friction material formula.The influence of binder content between in 16% to 25% to the material tribological properties has been verified by the experiment, and the conclusion that change rule figure. The conclusion when the binder content is 18%, the friction and wear performance is better, has been confirmed; The impact of steel fiber content to the new semi-metal friction materials friction and wear performance has been analysed through the experimental, the content changing between in 26%~35%, the graph shows when values about 32%, friction friction and wear performance is better; Iron powder content changes from 16%~22%, friction performance is better when about 18%,has obtained from the drawing; The rule diagram has shown, plumbago content changes from 14%~20%, the friction material performance is better when about 16%.Through the metal friction slices has been done to the semimetal friction material formula, the result that analysed by range analysis is:Binder 19%, steel fiber 32%, iron powder 18%, plumbago 16%, aramid fiber 3.6%, corundum 0.4%, barium sulphate 7%, stone tar 4%. Comparing to the different and same formulations, the superiority of optimal formula has been determined.The requirment of formula research has greatly satisfied by the current test data, and the research time and expense has alse been shortened.
