In recent years, the close relationship between the mixed valence state and molecular wires, paint, ceramics, mineral and electron transfer was found. Thus the "mixed valence compounds" which have long been ignored caused great interest for chemists and materials scientists. The research of mixed valence compounds became an interdisciplinary frontier research fields. In the first chapter, the definition of mixed valence was introduced. The research background and the application of mixed valence compounds in molecular wires were reviewed. In the second chapter, the principle and application of cyclic voltammetry was introduced. In the third chapter, a new mixed valence compound3-1containing osmafuran was synthesized from the reaction of OsCl2(PPh3)3and FcCOCCH. Through ligand exchange reaction of compound3-1, three new mixed valence compounds3-2,3-3, and3-4were obtained in relatively high yields. These compounds were characterized by NMR and Elemental Analysis. The structures of compounds3-1and3-3were further confirmed by X-ray single crystal diffraction. In the fourth chapter, the electrochemical properties of3-1-3-4were studied through cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry. All of these compounds displayed two pairs of reversible redox peaks. The electron communication between osmium and iron was influenced by the ligands around osmium (CO32->Cl->SCN-, PPh3≈DPPB (Ph2PCH2CH2CH2CH2PPh2)).In the fifth chapter, the innovation points of this paper were summarizes and the future work was prospected.
