In recent years, the applications of polymeric monoliths have been developed. Themonoliths have some unique advantages, such as low backpressure at chromatographic runs, high resolution and large capacity for solutes. The monoliths were mainly used as stationaryphases in liquid chromatographiy and pretreatment column in solid phase extraction (SPE).First, the monolith was prepared by in situ copolymerization of pentaerythritol triacrylate(PETA) and triallyl isocyanurate (TAIC). The effects of porogen, TAIC and PETA on themechanical properties of the monolith have been investigated. Furthermore, the poly(PETA-co-TAIC) monolithic column was applied to the separation of aromatic compounds asHPLC stationary phase.Further, the other monolith was prepared by in situ copolymerization of modified epoxyacrylate resin and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EDMA). The monolith was connected to aC18HPLC column to preconcent and determine three kinds of dipine species in aquaticsystems. The linear range of the standard curve was from2.0to500.0ng/mL for three thekinds of dipine drugs. Precision for inter-day and intra-day assay showed acceptable resultsfor quantitative assay with relative standard deviation (RSD) less than12%. The accuracy andrecovery were found to be within the range of89–102%and83–103%. The results indicatedthat the method showed high selectivity, sensitivity, and excellent reproducibility and impliedthat the prepared monolith was feasible to be used as an on-line SPE sorbent material.
