Currently, Rocky Desertification is one of the mostserious environmental problems in the Karst area of SouthwestChina. Low bearing capacity of ecological environment andfragile ecosystems pose a severe threat to the region’snatural, social and economic sustainability. Studies for thehuman intervention in the Karst area are of great significanceto the comprehensive taming of Rocky Desertification and theimprovement of Karst areas’ ecological environment.With the development of social economic, the effects ofhuman activities on Karst environment become deeply and widely.Human activities become an important indicator of the qualityof the environment in one region. This thesis aims to conducta research on the intensity of human intervention of the urbanfringe in Karst areas to investigate the effects of humanactivities on Rocky Desertification through an analysis of thecoupling relationship between human intervention and RockyDesertification.Analytic Hierarchy Process and Principal Component Analysis methods are used to determine the weight of eachfactor. A detailed analysis of the fragile ecologicalenvironment of the Demonstration Area in Hongfeng lake wasmade to build a comprehensive evaluation model of humanintervention in Karst area. Finally, with the help of3Stechnology and field research, the author has carried out aquantitative research on human intervention in this area. Themain findings are:(1) After a comprehensive analysis the intensity of humanintervention in the urban fringe of Karst area of theDemonstration Area of Hongfeng lake in2000,2005,2010,2013,from the perspective of spatial pattern, significant regionallocation changes were found in the mild to moderateintervention areas, other kinds of human intervention shows noobvious changes in the regional locations.(2)From the analysis of the coupling relationship betweenhuman intervention and Rocky Desertification, micro-intervention and mild intervention mainly distributed in theareas of no Rocky Desertification; moderate and intensive interventions distributed in every area, except for the severeRocky Desertification areas; extremely intensive interventionsmainly distributed in mild and moderate Rocky Desertificationareas.(3) From the perspective of the intervention and exit ofhuman intervention, the area change rate is large from2005to2010. Especially, moderate intervention area in2010increased7.29km2compared with that of2005, light interference area in2010decreased5.99km2compared with that of2005, and themicro-level intervention area in2010decreased2.94km2compared with that of2005.2005-2000(before humanintervention),2013-2010(after human intervention) the rateof change in these two years is slight overall, but intersectdistribution is found.
