Oxetane compounds have been widely applied in the field of adhesives,explosives and bio-pesticides. Recently, the studies of the oxetane compounds wereused as the reactive monomer for the cationic type UV-curing materials have beencarried out in foreign countries. But the related reports can not be found in ourcountry. This paper reported the synthesis of a monofunctional oxetane compoundand the properties of the oxetane compound as reactive monomer in the cationic typeUV-curing materials. The details of study are as follows:Firstly, a new reactive monomer named3-Ethyl-3-hydroxymethyl oxetane wassynthesized with trimethylolpropane (TMP) and diethyl carbonate (DEC) as rawmaterials, potassium hydroxide (KOH) as catalyst, ethanol as solvent. The process ofstudies of the effects of reaction temperature, the dosage of raw materials, catalystand solvent showed that the best reaction condition was that: The mole ratio of TMPand DEC was1:1and each of the reagent content was0.5mole, KOH in an amountof0.15g, an amount of ethanol was2ml, the reaction temperature was110℃. Thesynthesized product was characterized with FT-TR and1H-NMR, and the yield of theproduct was48.3%.Secondly, a UV-curing material system containing the new reactive monomerwas prepared. It showed that the new reactive monomer has a good dilution effect onepoxy resin which was usually used in the UV-cuing system, The prepolymer can beselected from the E-51and F-51.5%was the best mass fraction of the initiator. Thetensile strength of UV-curing materials can be up to30.72MPa, Elongation ofUV-curing materials can be up to9.89%, Impact strength of UV-curing materials canbe up to26kg·cm, Pencil Hardness of UV-curing materials can be up to4H. Theabove properties were better than the UV-curing materials which the reactive diluentwas selected from Cresol ether (JX-017) and diethylene glycol ether (JX-023).Finally, nano-silica which was modified by silane coupling agent KH-570wasadded to the UV-curing material system, Scanning electron microscope (SEM) observation showed that the modified nano-silica was well dispersed in the UV-curingmaterial system. And the modified nano-silica in a appropriate amount can improvedthe tensile strength、elongation and impact strength of the UV-curing materialseffectively.
