The flood delivery coolant is widely used in traditional grinding process to reduce the grindingtemperature; but a lot of use of grinding fluid does great harm to environments and workers, andincreases its cost of recycle. In view of this, the graphite self-lubricating coated monolayer brazedCBN grinding wheels are developed for dry grinding of titanium alloy. The result of this research canprovide the technology support for dry grinding of difficult-to-cut materials.The main contents are as follows:(1) The monolayer brazed CBN grinding wheels are prepared by choosing appropriate abrasive,designing and manufacturing wheel matrix, improving brazing alloy and brazing process conditions.Then, graphite and polyvinyl butyral are chosen to make soft coating, which prepares graphiteself-lubricating coated monolayer brazed CBN grinding wheels.(2) The research of graphite soft coating is carried out based on grinding temperature. Itconcludes that the optimal ratio of coating is Graphite20(Polyvinyl Butyral5Ethanol95)80. And, theminor process condition should be preferred in processing, which is in favor of improving the coatinglife.(3) In grinding of titanium alloys, the surface integrity is investigated. It concludes that if thecoated grinding wheels are chosen in dry grinding, the surface roughness reaches Ra0.6μm, which isa little below that of non-coating wheels which use flood delivery coolant; under the condition of twokinds of wheel, the grinding temperature is no more than440℃, which is lower than titanium alloysburn temperature.(4) The accumulative material removal volume is also investigated. It concludes that if the coatedgrinding wheels are chosen, the volume reaches19500mm3.
