The organic cyanation reaction is one of the important reaction in organic chemistry.A lot of important organic intermediates can be achieved by it, such as nitriles, cyanohydrins, α-amino acids, β-amino acids,α-amino nitriles, α-amino ketones, hydrazine nitriles and so on. Meanwhile, cyanation reaction can also be applied in thesynthesis of some chiral compounds, and even a lot of natural products. Nowadays, thecyanating reagents reported from the literatures are hydrocyanic acid, metal cyanides(such as sodium cyanide, potassium cyanide), trimethylsilyl cyanide and organiccyanating agents. These cyanating agents are highly toxic, corrosive, inflammable orunstable. It would bring greatly harm to our body and the environment if they are used asthe sources of cyanide. Therefore, searching for a kind of environmentally friendly cyanide source insteadof the traditional cyanating agents is necessary. To our delight, the potassiumhexacyanoferrate(II) is nontoxic and it can be obtained from the coal industry, and it evencan be used in the food industry as an antiagglutinating auxiliary. In this article, the potassium hexacyanoferrate(II) is used as an environmentallyfriendly cyanide source to conduct the conjugate monohydrocyanation with1,2-dibenzylidenehydrazines by one-pot two-step procedure. The article is divided into three sections:In chapter1, the applications of different cyanating reagents in organic reactions andthe hydrocyanation reactions of organic compounds containing C=N were reviewed. In chapter2, the conjugate monohydrocyanation of1,2-dibenzylidenehydrazines byone-pot, two-step procedure using potassium hexacyanoferrate(II) as eco-friendlycyanide source, benzoyl chloride as a promoter, methanol as solvent to synthesizehydrazinonitriles was described. This method has the advantages of mild reactioncondition, high yield and simple work-up procedure. In chapter3, an efficient method for the synthesis of the unsymmetrical1,2-dibenzylidenehydrazines by two-step procedure using different substituented aldehydes as substrates in ethanol. This procedure has the advantages of high yield andsimple work-up procedure.
