Minerals, elements and magnetic response of PM10in Xuzhou city werestudied.SEM+EDX,ICP-AES,factor analysis and Magnetic Parameters were appliedin this study to explore the characteristics ofpollution and magnetic response of PM10.The results show that:(1)The situation of air quality was common in2013. In the past year, AQIachieved the highest in January and December which achieved more than150andmoderate pollution. What’s more, AQI in winter, with an average of138, was highlybeyond the other three seasons of which AQI maked no difference.(2)The study disclosed the elemental and pollution characteristics in PM10. ThePM10in north area (261.56μg/m3)> northwest area (234.70μg/m3)> central area(197.14μg/m3)> sorthwest area (100.63μg/m3). Different shapes of particulates werefound in PM10, including spherical, lump and irregular matters, which might comefrom the coal combustion ash, construction dust and iron sinter. The enrichmentfactors of Mg, Cu, Zn, Ba were more than10, moreover, that of Zn was more than100, which indicated these elements were highly influenced by human activities. Inconclution, it was relatively serious of the pollution of heavy metals in Xuzhou.(3)The magnetical characteristics of PM10in Xuzhou were discussed in this study.By analysising the magnetic characteristics of PM10,it was found that the values ofχlfand SIRM were high. The magnetic minerals of PM10was mainly made up of theferrimagnetic minerals, containing a small amount of incomplete anti-ferromagneticminerals. In the other way, the ferrimagnetic minerals were mainly composed byStable Single Domain (SSD). Combined with the analysis of magnetic curves andDearing chart, we found that the maincontaining magnetic minerals were magnetite, and containeda small amounts of Super-paramagnetic (SP).(4)Characteristics of magnetic response on heavy metals was analysised.Throughthe analysis of correlation between heavy metals and magnetic parameters of PM10,we found that PM10showed a better correlation with magnetic susceptibility (R=0.574)than the other magnetic parameters. In addition, we also found that χlfcould effectivelyindicate not only the changes in the content of magnetic minerals, but also thechanges in the concentration of PM10.What’s more, it was found that the major sourceof heavy metals pollution contained coal and smelting pollution in Xuzhou.
