Xuzhou, as a typical coal city of industry, has a relative grievous problem of its air pollution. The researches about how the atmospheric particulate matters change with the period of day, month and year in Xuzhou's different urban functional areas show that: from the year 2001 to 2008, the average pollution level of atmospheric particulate matters gradually declines year by year, monthly variation shows that: while its peak value usually occurs at January and June each year, its lowest value often happens at July and September. The atmospheric particulate matters'daily mean value during the heating period exceeds the National Pollutant Control Standard grade 2 in most occasions.By using scan electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray energy dispersive spectrometer (EDX), this article distinguishes characteristic particles in different pollution sources and counts the proportional of characteristic particles in different pollution sources and atmospheric particle matters. Being marked by characteristic particles, this article makes source apportionment by using PNB model. In order to compare the results obtained from different models, we make analysis of the different element components contained in both pollution sources and atmospheric particle matters by using atomic absorption spectrum. Being marked by element, we use CMB model to make source apportionment. Results show the consistent conclusion from the two different models. Applying the PNB model to the source apportionment of TSP and PM10 in every sampling point in Xuzhou, results show us that: four kinds of pollution sources, including architecture, coal combustion, soil and iron and steel smelting contribute a total portion of 70% on TSP, while coal combustion, soil, architecture and vehicle, the highest four ranking pollution sources of PM10 reach more than 75%.We make analysis of PAHs in TSP and PM10 in Xuzhou's different functional areas in spring, summer, winter and wheat harvest. The individual PAHs analyzed in this study were 16 USEPA priority .Results show: (1) Compared with other cities in and out of China, the PAHs in Xuzhou City reach the medium level pollution. (2) The concentration PAHs contained in both TSP and PM10 has the following principle in different seasons: winter>spring>summer, the PAHs which contained in PM10 is about 80% of PAHs in TSP, it is suggested that PAHs has a tendency of accumulating to small-diameter particulars. (3)Among all the TSP and PM10 in different seasons and different functional areas, 4-ring to 6-ring PAHs rank the highest, which is greater than 90%. (4) Total concentrations of PAHs in TSP and PM10 increase by 12.5% and 16.2% respectively during the period of burning wheat straw after wheat harvest than those before wheat harvest and most PAHs monomers'concentrations somewhat increase.(5) PAHs'total concentration annual average value in both TSP and PM10 varies from different functional areas: traffic trunk road area >industrial area>residential area>scenic tourist spot. The results of these researches show that the total pollution level in Xuzhou's different functional urban area has declined gradually year by year in recent years.Combining factor analysis and multiple stepwise regression, we take advantage of the software of SPSS (15.0) to analyze the PAHs pollution sources in Xuzhou's different urban functional areas. Results:PAHs pollution sources of each functional area mainly comes from transportation, coal combustion and high-temperature heating. According to the research results, we suggest related measures concerning the pollution prevention and control of PAHs and atmospheric particulate matters in Xuzhou.
