In recent years, the development momentum of Traditional ChineseMedicine industry has been rapid. But the problems of TCM wastewater pollutionare increasingly serious. Characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine wastewaterpollutants complex composition, poor biodegradability, toxic; these characteristicslead to the treatment more difficult. Currently, the research on the TCMwastewater treatment process is less. By understanding and researching the projectexpanded granular sludge bed (EGSB) and internal circulation (IC) reactor, thencombined with the advantages of both, to innovate double circulation reactor (DC),for the treatment of TCM wastewater. The main purpose of the study is the researchof the feasibile of the new reactor to treat the TCM waste water and the characrersof its granular sludge in order to provide a basis and reference for the futurepractical application.The wastewater used for the topic is acidic, mainly containing aromaticcompounds, protein and BTEX. Using DC reactor to treat the wastewater medicineresearch reactor start-up, reactor performance, handling characteristics of granularsludge wastewater medicine and other content.In the start-up phase, I choose to cultivate granular sludge with glucose water,after20days`cultivating, the granular sludge was successfully made. The CODremoval rapid increasingly fast, the average COD removal efficiency was90.3%; ingranular sludge acclimation period, the average COD removal efficiency reached94.5%. Reactor started smoothly and cultivated a good performance suitable fordomestication in the Chinese traditional medicine wastewater sludge particles.By studying the influence of hydraulic retention time factor, temperature, andtypical pollutants to the performance of the processing reactor, the optimumoperating parameters of DC reactor: influent COD≈5000mg/L, temperature20℃,HRT=12h, reflux ratio R=2:1, when dealing with a typical concentration ofpollutants in waste water should not exceed100ml/35L medicine. Under thiscircumstance, the effluent COD removal efficiency in average is94.1%, averageload of COD removal is16.16kgCOD/m3.d, the average pH value is8.03, VFAconcentration is1.0mmol/L or so, the water alkalinity average of24.4mmol/L,the average yield of methane gas was0.30m3CH4/kg.COD.To study the characteristics of granular sludge, under the good reactoroperating condition, the sludge is made of coccus, bacilli, and bacteria mutualstacked. After adding the typical pollutants, various significantly decreased thebacteria amount, methanogenic phase seriously hampered by excessive secretion of extracellular polymeric substances to cause a resistance and mass transfer process,granular sludge settling performance deteriorated.In the reactor, granular sludge effluent diameter diminished after impacted bythe medicine at beginning, but after the granular sludge acclimation, COD leadedsize high particle growth; sludge particle size is not affected by the excessive andshort residence time over the temperature drop. Calcium, Magnesium ions contentand particle size distribution of the sludge are related to effluent water quality,greater the diameter, better the water quality, and higher the content of the two ions.High calcium and magnesium ions content is in favor of the normal the reactoroperation.By various stages of research on SMP soluble microbial products, when thereactor is under good condition, in addition to large amounts of toxic benzenecompounds and aromatic compounds in the process of wastewater treatment inChinese medicine. Otherwise SMP aromatic compounds appear, such as humic acid,fulvic acid, carbohydrates and so on. Various stages of granular sludge extracellularpolymeric substances (EPS) component has no significant change.By measuring the levels found in various stages of coenzyme F420, the contentchange shows a good reflection of the methanogenic activity. Bacteria CoA levels inthe reactor are high in a good operating condition; within the DC reactor CoA levelswere no impact under low temperature condition. At room temperature is still ableto maintain high levels of coenzyme, methanogens are very active, and excessiveconcentration of rhein on the activity of methanogenic bacteria is significantlyinhibited.
