Cement concrete is the most widely and largest used building materials, so ithas great significance to study its performance improvement. With the developmentof nanotechnology, many scholars use the nano materials to improve the mechanicalproperties and durability of concrete, which have achieved good results. Grapheneas a special two-dimensional material, with its good physical and chemicalproperties have been widely used in the composite. Since the inner surface ofgraphene is the sp2-hybridized structure, which is weak to bind the substrate, moreoften we use the graphene oxide as a reinforcing phase of the matrix. This article begins with the preparation of graphene oxide, combined with itscement and concrete performance improvement and then explore the mechanisms. The main contents include the following aspects:1. Respectively use the modified Hummers method and the two-step oxidationafter thermal expansion method to prepare different sizes of graphene oxide. Thenuse the scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy andother testing methods to characterize the microstructure of graphene oxide.2. By using the scanning electron microscopy to see the addition of grapheneoxide’s effect on regulating the morphology of the cement hydration, then searchfor its role in parts of cement hydration products.3. Via adding different size of graphene oxide to study its impact on theperformance of cement paste, and to study its mechanism of action with some testmethods.4. By the addition of graphene oxide into the concrete to study the role ofgrapheme oxide in modifying the mechanical properties and durability of concrete, then explain the enhanced mechanism.
