In order to solve the problem about the high grinding temperature exists in high efficiencygrinding of high temperature alloy, an idea about heat pipe grinding wheel has been put forward.The core of the idea about cooling moved from the work piece to the grinding wheel. A loop heat pipeshould be formed in the grinding wheel. And the heat generated in the grinding zone will beconducted through the heat pipe by its high thermal conductivity, then the burnout of the work piecewill be avoid.According to the above ideas, following works have been done by the author:(1) A finite element numerical simulation on heat pipe grinding wheel matrix was carried out byusing ANSYS software.The stress and strain distribution of heat pipe grinding wheel was discussedunder the condition of centrifugal force and grinding force. A series of stress and strain distributiondiagrams with different velocity can be obtained. Grinding wheel structure strength can satisfy therequirement of high efficiency grinding process. The strength check of heat pipe grinding wheelmatrix will offer valuable guides for the structural design and optimization of heat pipe grindingwheel.(2) A set of heat pipe grinding wheel production system platform has been manufactured, whichcan be used to test the vacuum encapsulation of heat pipe grinding wheel structure, and the vacuumpumping, working fluid filling and sealing of HPGW was achieved with this system platform. Afterthat, an electroplated CBN HPGW applied in the high efficiency grinding was developed through anestablished heat pipe production system platform.(3) Grinding contrast experiments using the electroplated CBN HPGW and conventionalelectroplated CBN grinding wheel without heat pipe were carried out in the high efficiency grindingof GH4169under the same condition. Temperature in the grinding contact zone and work piecesurface quality is analyzed under the same condition with two different grinding wheel, which can beused to verify the heat transfer performance of HPGW for the high efficiency grinding of hightemperature alloy.
