Ultraviolet curing PUA(Polyurethane acrylate) has the advantages of low curingtemperature, fast curing process, eco-friendly and so on. What’s more, it combines the strongpoints of polyurethane resin as well as acrylate resin. These outstanding properties makesPUA widely applied in the fields of metal, wood, plastic, printing ink, textile printing, fibercoating, medical usage, nano-materials and so on.This thesis aims at the studies on the synthesis of PUA coating by bulk polymerization,using MDI-50, HEMA, PPG, PDAG as raw materials.2different synthesis routes arecompared. We found out that to start the chain propagation first and then esterify will havelower viscosity which fits the industrial usage. After some tests, we found the best conditionsof PUA synthesis.By comparing various formulas, we analyzed the effects of curing time, the properties ofPUA with various types of polyglycol and active diluents. As the curing time increases, thetensile strength and break elongation first increase and then decrease. When R=2~3, the resinhas better performance in tensile strength, break elongation as well as viscosity.Thepolyglycol with shorter chain lengthhelps to increase the tensile strength, but at the same timelower its flexibility. By combining different types and changing the portion of active diluenthelps to improve its flexibility but sacrifice the tensile strength. After the hydrolysis test andanalyzing the Tg, the PUA has excellent thermal stability.The best resin we synthesizedwas the resin with MDI50, H7104,HEMA when R=2. Itperformed excellent overall properties and we use it as the matrix resin to design a new UVcuring coating.
