Microbial breeding and spread were a constant menace to human health andenvironment. They became the main reason of infectious diseases (such as woundinfections, respiratory diseases). Especially some public places (such as living room,hospital, station,and so on). how to maintain a clean and healthy indoor air was aquestion, which caused for growing concern. The air and metope in some publicplaces had a lot of the growth of bacteria,which provided a good living space for thespread of germs. In the living room,we could use antimicrobial materials(such asantimicrobial coating and paint) to kille or inhibit the growth ofmicroorganisms(bacteria, fungi).so there should not only maintaine the beauty ofinterior decorative coatings, but also they could clean indoor air to prevent the thebacteria of indoor air and the mold of interior wall to survive. Therefore, the study ofantimicrobial coatings could provide the good of the people’s living environment, ithad an important significance.The object of this paper was based on the preparation of acrylic copolymer andhumidity-controlling coating of our research group. Cationic acrylate copolymeremulsions were prepared by cation monomer as the functional monomer, which wereas the function of polymer film. and then, inorganic porous multi-layer materialaspigments and fillers, were applied the wall coating.They had excellenthumidity-controlling performances and antibacterial properties. This paper wasdivided into the following sections:Firstly, the latest research progress of the cationic emulsion at home and abroadwas reviewed. First, from the perspective of main components of cationic acrylateemulsion, which were introduced by its monomer, initiator and emulsifier. Second, theother emulsion methods were introduced in addition to conventional emulsionpolymerization method. Third, the modified methods of cationic emulsion wereintroduced. Last, the applications of cationic emulsion in the industry wereintroduced.Secondly, methacryloyloxyethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (DMC) as thefunctional monomer, methyl methacrylate (MMA), butyl acrylate (BA), acrylic acid (AA) were copolymerized to prepare the cationic acrylate copolymer emulsion(PDBMA). The preparation conditions were optimized and their structure wascharacterized by FT-IR. It proved that all monomers participated in the polymerizationreaction. Moreover, the antibacterial properties of the emulsion ware investigated. Theresults showed that PDBMAemulsion had good antibacterial propertyies.Thirdly, methacryloyloxyethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (DMC) as thefunctional monomer, glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) as the crosslinking monomer,methyl methacrylate (MMA), butyl acrylate (BA), acrylic acid (AA) werecopolymerized to prepare the epoxy-crosslinked cationic acrylate copolymer emulsion(PGDBMA). The preparation conditions were optimized and their structure wascharacterized by FT-IR. It proved that all monomers participated in the polymerizationreaction. Moreover, the antibacterial properties of the emulsion were investigated. Theresults showed that PGDBMAemulsion had good antibacterial propertyies.Fourthly, the cationic acrylate copolymer emulsion (PDBMA) and theepoxy-crosslinked cationic acrylate copolymer emulsion (PGDBMA) as thefilm-forming agent, which were prepared porous structure of the humidity-controllingcoatings with the porous fillers. The humidity controlling properties of three coatingswere investigated and The morphology of coatings were characterized by SEM.Moreover, the water absorption properties,humidity-controlling and antibacterialpropertyies of the coatings were tested. The results showed that two kinds of coatingshad porous structure, which can be used as humidity-controlling coatings. Meanwhile,they reached to Chinese standard about interior wall coating. And both of coatings hadexcellent humidity-controlling and antibacterial properties.Fifthly,methyl methacrylate (MMA), butyl acrylate (BA), acrylic acid (AA),diacetone acrylamide (DAAM) as grafting monomers,which were graftedcopolymerization with carboxymethyl cellulose.It could be prepared by the ambientself-crosslinking carboxymethyl cellulose-based graft copolymer emulsion. Thepreparation conditions were optimized and their structures were characterized. It wasfurthermore to prepare the porous structure of humidity-controlling coating. the waterabsorption properties andhumidity-controlling properties of the coatings were tested.It reached to Chinese standard about interior wall coating, while the coating had excellent humidity-controlling performance.In short, It was successed to prepare a new class of coating,which had excellenthumidity-controlling and antibacteria performances.They can be applied to interiorcoating in the living room, hospital, school and other public facilities.
