Light is an important carrier for information delivery, information can be encoded onto qualities of light, such as, intensity, color, phase and polarization. If information can be encoded onto different qualities of light simultaneously, the capability of information delivery of light will be greatly improved. A large amount of complicated information can be delivered effectively. In this paper, single layer nanometer coatings are used to control the color and magneto-optical Kerr effect of magnetic metal simultaneously. Theoretical and experimental investigation for the mechanism is done. RGB color composition principle is utilized to intuitively explain the color change. Multi-reflection process in nanometer coating is used to calculate the color and Kerr rotation of magnetic metal. On the base of the mechanism mentioned above, the strong relation of color and magneto-optical Kerr effect is studied. Two potential applications are proposed in principle. In addition, longitudinal and transverse Kerr effect is enhanced using absorbing nanometer coatings, and Kerr effect of structured iron films is simply investigated.
