As an ultrafine grinding equipment with high capacity utilization and development of promising, horizontal stirred mill occupies an irreplaceable position in the mineral crushing process. With the development of science and technology, the preparation of ultrafine powders with small product particle size and uniform particle size distribution is particularly important. How to improve the grinding efficiency of stirred mills and reduce their power consumption is also a topic that domestic and international numerous scholars have been studying.There are many factors that influence grinding efficiency of horizontal stirred mill, for example:filling rate, the ratio, of the balls and material, the size of the medium balls, material properties, and stirrer speed, etc., in addition the influence of the Stirrer disc structure on stirred mill grinding efficiency cannot be ignored. The research object of this paper is horizontal stirred mill, and I have studied six different Stirrer disc (including the trapezoidal tooth disc, the serrated toothed disc, the common disc, decagonal disc, the octagonal disc and the hexagonal disc) structure on the horizontal stirred mill grinding efficiency. Firstly, this paper introduces the development of stirred mill and its application status quo, put forward the research content and plans of this topic, and provides the theoretical basis for the simulation and experimental study in the later chapters. Secondly, the thesis introduces the related basic theory on the discrete element method as well as EDEM software, and elaborates the stirred mill grinding mechanism and work principle. Again, the paper applied EDEM for six different forms of Stirrer disc simulation, and puts forward the horizontal stirred mill grinding performance evaluation method, the comprehensive consideration of stirred mill grinding strength and power consumption. Analyzing the simulation results, it is concluded that:when the Stirrer disc structure is the trapezoidal tooth disc, the comprehensive performance of horizontal stirred grinding machine is best, with high grinding efficiency, low power consumption. On the contrary the worst comprehensive performance comes with ordinary disc. Finally, I used Solid Edge3d modeling software to design the experimental prototype, then processed and installed an experimental prototype. After that, I took some experiments with the above two trapezoidal tooth disc and common disc on the experimental prototype. LS900laser particle size analyzer was used to detect the size of sample particle size before and after those experiments, and then the experiment results was compared with EDEM software simulation results.By analyzing the EDEM simulation results we could get the influence of different Stirrer disc structure on the horizontal stirred mill grinding efficiency. This kind of research method not only provides certain reference basis for practical production, but also save the manpower and financial resources. Comparing experiment results and the result of the simulation, We’ll get a more convincing conclusion.
