Pharmaceuticals and personal care products are a kind of emerging organic pollutants, containing pharmaceuticals and personal care products as well as their metabolites. Most of them with the feature of high water solubility, persistence, biological accumulation and long-distance migration, called "the fake POPs". These objects are relevant to human beings daily life, so low dose of PPCPs are discharged into the environment every day. Because of this, human beings and other organisms are exposed to PPCPs for their lifetime, affecting people’s health and environment ecosystem security. Some PPCPs are endocrine disrupted, they can affect organisms endocrine system. Other PPCPs have some special toxicity such as reproduction toxicity, causing cancer, malformation and mutation and so on. The biotoxicity of some PPCPs are still unknown that causing the scientists’attentions all over the world. However, PPCPs are trace organic contaminants in the environment and the environmental matrixes are complex, these two reasons make the detection of PPCPs much more difficult.This study choose ten PPCPs as target compounds, they are Ofloxcin, Norfloxcin Ciprofloxcin, Lomefloxcin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Triclosan, Salicylic acid Sulfamethoxazole and Cabamazepine. It established SPE-HPLC/MS/MS and SPE-HPLC/FLD methods to detect target compounds in water samples. Using these methods to detect the concentrations of target compounds in the sewage and analyzing their pollution characters and removal efficiency in the wastewater treatment plants. At the same time, an evaluate system has been established to evaluate which compound should be controlled priority. This system based on the toxicity, persistence and the amount of these ten target compounds discharged into the environment. The results of this evaluation can guide environment managers to manage the environment.This study has optimized the conditions about the solid phase extraction(SPE), such as the cartridges of SPE, activated solvents, elution solvents and the purification. Adding3g silica to the HLB cartridge to enhance the purification effect. The methanol and ultra pure water(pH=3) were used to active cartridges and the MeOH containing2%formic acid solution was the elution.HPLC-FLD and HPLC-MS/MS were used to detect the trace target compounds in water samples with qualitative and quantitative analysis. The resolutions of target compounds were improved because of the optimization of flow phase. The recoveries of spiked water samples were above90%. Reasonable repeatability and reproducibility of the established method were achieved with the liner relative correlations were above0.99and the relative standard deviation <15%. That means the effects of extraction and purification of this method were good.The established methods were applied to detect the concentrations of target compounds in the wastewater treatment plants. The occurrence, fate and elimination of target compounds in the eight STPs of the urban area of Kunming City were as follows. The total concentrations of the target compounds in the sewage samples ranged from0.12ng/L to26626.19ng/L, and the removal efficiencies ranged from11.59%to100%. A part of PPCPs were discharged into the environment as the effluents discharged. The experiments data were analysed in the evaluation system, directing the triclosan should be controlled priority in Kunming urban area.
