Gold tailing is the ore sand produced in the process of gold ore extraction. Thereutilization of gold tailing can turn waste into wealth. It is very important to promote thedevelopment of national economy to protect the environment. Ceramsite has the advantagesof light weight, high strength, low water absorption, so it can be used as a lightweightaggregate to make ceramsite concrete. It can be also applied to a lot of fields like constructionmaterials, gardening, chemical engineering and petroleum industry. Because gold tailingcontains some chemical ingredients such as SiO2and Al2O3, and this is consitent with therequirement to raw materials in the process of ceramsite preparation. This article bingsforward a new method of using gold tailings to toast ceramsite. This research will bing aboutnew development of gold tailing industry. So this is of great importance both theoretically andpractially.The work of this paper is focused on toasting ceramsite using gold tailing, the main tasksare as follows:(1) This paper tests the performence of raw materials in the process of toasting ceramsite,analyses the chemical composition, mineral composition, thermal properties, grain size andpulverized coal ignition loss.and then describe the preparation process andperformance-testing methods of toasting ceramsite using gold tailing.(2) The research of toasting ceramist with gold tailing is tried out, and waterconsumption, drying time, calcination temperature, calcination time, cooling mode and otherfactors are also be tested. Results show that the suitable ratio of water and raw material duringthe preparation of material is3:10, drying time is2hours, and moisture content of material isabout5%after drying, roasting temperature range is1130~1160℃, roasting time should bemore than60minites, cooling way should choose natural cooling in air.(3)The optimal scheme is studied by designing two orthogonal experiments in this article.Results show that the optimal scheme including gold tailings of55.55%, fly ash of39.39%,coal of5.05%, preheating temperature of450℃, preheating time of60minites, calcination of120minites at1155℃. In this way, the properties of ceramsite are in line with the propertiesof light aggregate demand of the GB/T17431.11998, which is packing density of856kg·m-3,cylinder pressure strength of5.95MPa, water absorption rate of5.2%, the apparent density of1632kg·m-3, the softening coefficient of0.88.
