As solid waste produced along with the development of papermaking industry, papermaking sludge has severely limited its further development. In recent years, the increasing treatment amount of papermaking wastewater results in the excess accumulation of sludge. Using a variety of sludge treatment and disposal methods to reduce it has become a hot spot for researchers nowadays. In this paper, papermaking sludge was treated by five pretreatment methods, including thermal hydrolysis pretreatment, ultrasonic pretreatment, microwave pretreatment, acid-base pretreatment as well as Fenton pretreatment, to explore the changes of SCOD, VS, sugar concentration, C%, N%produced in sludge disintegration process. In addition, thermal gravimetric analysis was adopted for treated sludge to discuss the impacts of different pretreatment methods on sludge thermal stability. Finally, considering the microbial fuel cell technology (MFC), papermaking sludge after Fenton pretreated was used as MFC fuel to study its electrical production characteristics.1. Comparison the effects of the five pretreatment methods on sludge physical properties indicated that:under the optimal process, strong base treatment for papermaking sludge would obtain a higher organic matter dissolution rate and the lysis effect was better with the highest SCOD content, which was followed by Fenton treatment. Further, the ultrasonic treatment was good for sludge cell to decomposite carbonaceous organic, which had the largest sugar concentration. With a smaller microwave power and shorter processing time, microwave pretreatment didn’t reflect its superiority.2. The material changes of Fenton reagent oxidation disintegration sludge was investigated by single-factor test method. The test showed that papermaking sludge had the best oxidation and disintegration when the sludge solids content was about4%, the system initial pH was3.0, the reaction temperature was60℃, the reaction time was60min, the H2O2dosage was40%and the Fe2+dosage was0.5g/L. Under this condition, the contents of SCOD, SCOD/TCOD, VS and VSS were3306.24mg/L,36.7%,39.4%,2.35g/L respectively..3. Papermaking sludge after Fenton pretreated was used as MFC fuel to study its electrical production characteristics in this paper. The results stated that: The MFC steady output voltage of treated sludge was higher than that of MCF start-up period. During the whole process, the total time of output voltage above175mV was140h. After output voltage was stable, the output power density was the maximum37.5mW/m2when the current reached0.6mA.
