Muscle fibers were the basic composition of skeletal muscle. Muscle fibers type and distribution played an important role in meat quality. According to molecular method, muscle fibers could be classifid in typeI, typeIIa, typeIIx and typeIIb.The biceps femoris (BF) and longgissimus dorsi (LD) of different aged Ujumqin sheeps that were rose under the condition of natural pasture were reasearch in this study. Muscle fibers type was identified by ATPase. Myosin heavy chain isoforms (MyHC) were separated by SDS-PAGE. The expression level of MyHC genes were investigated by Real-time PCR. The correlation between muscle fiber type and the expression level of MyHC genes was analyzed in the study. There are main conclusions as follow:The sum of expression level of MyHCI and MyHCIIa genes was higher than MyHCIIb gene of BF in most mouths. Gene result is basically consistent with ATPase method result. The sum of expression level of MyHCI and MyHCIIa genes was higher than MyHCIIb gene of LD in most mouths. Typella muscle fiber existed in1-month-age and9-month-age and12-month-age, meanwhile, typeIIb muscle fiber existed widely. On the whole, the expression level of MyHC genes was basically consistent with the the percentage of muscle fiber types during the growth of mouth. The changing rule of muscle fiber types and MyHC gene in differents mouths was analyzed in the study, which provided theoretical basis for livestock meat quality improvement and processing of animal products.
