Efficient dry cutting technology is the trend of mechanical processing to meet theserious market competition. But in dry cutting operation without effective lubrication,the cutting temperature, cutting force and tool wear rate will tend to be higher, whichhinder the development of green cutting technology. The micro texturedself-lubrication tool with MoS2based lubrication has been designed and fabricated inthis paper. The performance of that of tool in dry cutting austenitic stainless steel hasbeen study. The mechanism of MoS2based lubricant to improve the cuttinglubrication performance in dry cutting has been analyzed. The self-lubricationmechanism of textured cutting tool also been explained. The main research content asfollow:1. The cutting lubrication model was proposed combined the character of solidlubricant and cutting load. The process of solid lubricant to achieve anti-frictionself-lubrication of cutting tool was discussed. The mechanism of texturedself-lubrication tool with solid lubricant to reduce cutting force and cuttingtemperature has been analyzed based on the traditional cutting theory.2. The structures of the micro texture have been designed by using finiteelement analysis method. Three different type textures were proposed based on thecharacter of texture. Discuss the influence to the stress distribution of micro texture interms of texture type, location on the tool surface, space, shape of cross-section andsectional size.3. The influence of laser processing parameters to the size of micro texture hasbeen analyzed by means of orthogonal experiment method. Based on the results oforthogonal experiment and simulation analysis determined the appropriate laserprocessing parameters to fabricate three different type micro textures on cutting toolrake face. MoS2based lubricant with different component were filled in the microtexture of cutting tool to finish the fabrication of micro textured self-lubrication tool.4. The dry cutting experiments with MoS2based lubrication texturedself-lubrication cutting tool on austenitic stainless steel have been conducted. Thecutting performance in terms of cutting force, friction coefficient of rank face, wear ofrank face and morphology of chip were discussed. The anti-friction performance ofdifferent MoS2based solid lubrications and different type of micro textures have been analyzed through morphology of adhere wear on the rake face. The mechanism ofMoS2based solid lubricants improve the anti-friction performance have been analyzed.The self-lubrication mechanism of textured cutting tool also been explained.
