The Dress Corset Design Based On Asian Body Characteristic Research

As one of the high-end women garments, dress frequently appears in concerts, balls, Opera Houses, fashion parties, etc. The shape of dress is always easy to catch people’s attention at the first sight while the inner part-the corselet which can support the dress is easy to be ignored. The shape of corselet is the key factor to the appearance of the dress. Dress industry in China starts late and immature, especially the close-fitting dress is not that well-shaped and lack of stability. This requires garment designer to amend and make up the body shape defects with superb shaping craftsmanship and full decorative arts to build the perfect body curve and beautify the appearance. The design of close-fitting dress is to show the dresser graceful figure and perfect posture. We notice that the curves of women’s chest, waist and hit are the keys in shaping. The corselet design is playing a most important role in the design of close-fitting dress. However, the development of corselet is not that perfect and lack of pertinency as well as innovation. It is well worth designers’careful consideration. Thus, it is of great importance to further study the shape of corselet in design the close-fitting dress.This thesis is to study the shape of corselet in designing dress through experiments and analysis as well as contrast among specific cases. It concludes the best shape of corselet which suits modern Asian women best. With analysis on the state when women wearing the dress, the structure and craftsmanship of corselet, the thesis has raised some problems and influencing factors in shaping the corselet as well as personal idea of solutions and improvements.
