In recent years, along with the rapid development of industry, constructionindustry, especially the shipbuilding steel, plastic die steel, energy and other largeequipment, with the rapid development of the demand for high quality ingot isgrowing. However, because of steel ingot nature solidification time is long, and itssolidification process is difficult to control, thus in the casting solidification process iseasy to defects such as center porosity, shrinkage cavity, segregation. It is difficult tomeet the requirements of the quality of ingot. In order to improve the quality of ingot,it is need to change the natural coagulation into controllable, solve the qualityproblem of the ingot from the "source". Bases on the characteristic of rolling thickplate with large broad ingot as the research object, using the physical researchmethods, analysis of the steel ingot solidification structure and mechanical propertiesunder the action of the medium frequency induction.Analysis results show that the medium frequency induction has established a heatsource on the top of the ingot. The ingot riser has been improved and mediumfrequency induction role has also changed the columnar crystal morphology in theingot. It makes the columnar crystal transform into isometric and increases thenumber of cubic, improves the equiaxial crystal. Experiments also find that theintermediate frequency induction has improved the performance of the steel ingotresist impact and the toughness of steel ingot. It has improved the hardness of the steelingot, and with the improvement of medium frequency induction power, the hardnessof steel ingot is more and more big. But no longer increases after reaches a certainvalue. Thus, medium frequency induction solidification technology makes the internalorganization of ingot improve, and also make a positive effect on the mechanicalproperties of the steel ingot.
