Two kinds of new austenitic hot work die steel were designed by controlling thecontent of various carbides and phase transformation temperatures with JMatProsoftware in this paper, based on the present steel specification. The influence of Cr, C,Mn content on the alpha-gamma transition temperature and various carbides contentwase predicted. The effect of heat treatment process on microstructure, hardness andthermal stability for the new austenitic hot work die steel was researched experimently. The microstructures including precipitates of the new steel were characterized bymetalloscope and scanning electron microscope. Finally, microstructures and thermalstability of the new steel were analyzed through comparing with martensitic hot workdie steel H13,4Cr3.75MoSiV. The main results are as follows:<Ⅰ> The final optimization compositions of C, Cr, Mn for the new steel are0.7wt%,0.96wt%,13.5wt%respectively after a comprehensive analysis ofmicrostructures and thermal stability..<Ⅱ> The optimized quenching temperature for the new steel is1400℃and thehardness is not less than40HRC at750℃for4hours.<Ⅲ> Compared with traditional martensitic hot work die steel H13,4Cr3.75MoSiV whose tempering hardness being HRC46at550℃for2hours, thethermal stability of the new steel whose tempering hardness being HRC41.5at750℃for4hours is significantly improved.
