Twin roll steel strip casting process is absorbing the attention of the steel producers of the world as one of the new technologies for its suitability for the steel industry developing tendency of low energy consumption, short procedure, high speed and low production cost. The industrization application of twin-roll process is hindered due to the process stability and surface quality of the casing strip, and the side confinement technique is one of the key factors influence on the process stability and surface quality of the castinig strips. On the basis of the references the status quo about the side confinement problem of the strip casting are described, and the references needs of the study are prepared.The confinement principle of the electronmagnetic side dam is explained by the interaction between the metal and the electromagnetic field using the MHD theory. At the same, this paper also studies the side seal position control and the side pressure control of the thin tape casting side sealing technology. The greater side pressure that cause motor power consumption and the friction loss between crystal boundary and the side panel. The side pressure is too small that cause the breakout. The side dam location can be identified through the solidification end point. By online sampling the thin tape temperature, solidification end point model is set up. This model solves the problem that the solidification end point cannot be measured directly and the side dam location cannot be accurately adjusted real-time with interfering factors. The problem of poor real-time performance and robustness is solved by MRAS.All in all, this article researches for the side plate control of the twin roll strip continuous casting technology, in order to further the experiment provides experimental basis for industrial production.
